SR 60 ARCH EXTENSION

precast arch bridge
A cast-in-place concrete arch built in 1948 to carry State Route 60 over Hoggatt Branch was still in good condition when a planned roadway widening made it functionally obsolete. Rather than remove the existing arch, INDOT elected to extend the structure in each direction using precast concrete arch sections. The ECO-SPAN® arch solution chosen by Gohmann Asphalt was a single-leaf 30’ span x 12’ rise single-radius arch which was a good match with the existing arch shape. The precast was installed on 5’ tall cast-in-place stem walls and a short closure pour provided a transition from new to old. The existing two lanes of traffic were maintained throughout construction.
