S.R 213 Over Island Creek
54’ Span x 25.25’ Rise Twin Leaf Versa™ Series Multiple Radius
A new structure was needed to replace a 3-span box culvert built in 1949 at a state road near Steubenville, Ohio. To limit road closure time and a nearly 8-mile detour, Woolpert and the Ohio Department of Transportation selected a precast concrete arch bridge. The 54-foot clear span eliminated the existing structure’s piers in the channel, reducing the chance of debris build-up, flooding and future maintenance requirements. The precast arch culvert was a perfect fit to carry the nearly 20 feet of earth cover, creating a 40-foot grade separation from stream bed to roadway.
