CUY-USR6 Over EB Entrance Ramp

The CUY-USR6 project connects the lakefront with Cleveland’s west side neighborhoods. It simplifies connections along the limited access freeway, increases access to Lake Erie, improves green space, improves biking and pedestrian facilities, and increases development potential.
The project preserves three lanes of traffic in each direction, while transforming the 2-mile freeway into a tree-lined, scenic boulevard. The improvements gained by this project involve a plethora of transportation choices, including public transport, cycling, running, and walking.
The project was broken down into three phases for funding purposes. The difficulty surrounding this project stemmed from silty conditions and a high groundwater table. The fact that there was no lay-down space between the shoreway and railway also proved challenging. This bridge project was completed in late summer of 2016 and received the “Short Span Award” in 2017 from the Association for Bridge Construction and Design (ABCD).
