DESCRIPTION

U.S. 62 Over Holmes County Trail
20′ Span x 11″ Rise Arch Box

An abandoned railroad right-of-way was converted to the new Holmes County Trail, a linear park in Ohio’s Amish country. This trail is believed to be the first in the country designed to accommodate not only pedestrians, bicycles and horseback riding, but also horse-drawn buggies. At 15′, the clear rise of the tunnel is higher than a typical rails-to-trails crossing.

The structure is coated with an epoxy-urethane paint and features wall-mounted lighting. The tunnel replaced a severely skewed multiple-span beam bridge which carried US 62 over the railroad.
