DESCRIPTION
80th Ave Metra Station Pedestrian Tunnel
16′ Span x 9.75 Rise Arch Box
With federal and Chicago Metra funding, the Village of Tinley Park set out to build a first-class commuter train station at 80th Avenue. This included a 16’ wide x 52’ long ECO-SPAN® Arch-Box tunnel complete with custom formliner-faced headwalls, wingwalls and precast pilasters. Railing, lighting, landscaping, architectural precast pieces and meticulously stained formliner “stones” finished the look, which complements the nearby station building. In addition to the rigorous aesthetic requirements, specifications required the tunnel to support Cooper E-80 railroad loading. The end result is an impressive facility that will serve local residents and the thousands of commuters who use the station daily for many decades with minimal maintenance.
