DESCRIPTION

U.S. 31 and Ramp C, Structure 12
16′ Span x 6′ Foot Rise Arch Box

When designing a bypass highway to route US 31 around Kokomo, Indiana, designers encountered a small stream that potentially caused big problems. The stream would need to cross under the new divided highway as well as a flyover ramp supported by an MSE wall.

The solution was a ECO-SPAN® 16’ Arch-Box structure specially designed to support up to 40’ of cover including the retaining wall. A single culvert carries all three roadways and a significant embankment over the stream.

Primco built a cast-in-place mat foundation to support the precast arch. Precast pieces were installed in several stages using a small crane. The end result is a quality, low-maintenance culvert that allows easy access for inspection.
